The International Undergraduate Program (IUP) of the Psychology Faculty at Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully conducted its first intake selection process, attracting strong interest from prospective students who aspire to pursue psychology in an international academic environment. A total of 112 applicants registered for this intake, reflecting the growing recognition of IUP Psychology UGM as a program that prepares students for global academic and professional engagement.
Following the initial screening stage, 43 applicants advanced to the second stage of the selection process, which was held on March 6 and 7. This stage consisted of a series of assessments designed to evaluate applicants’ academic potential, English proficiency, critical thinking skills, and overall readiness to thrive in a rigorous international learning setting.
A Rigorous and Structured Selection Process
The selection process took place over two days, allowing applicants to demonstrate their abilities through different forms of assessment.
On Friday, participants completed the GMST test from 08.00 to 10.00, which assessed general academic aptitude and reasoning abilities. Later in the afternoon, they took the AcEPT test from 13.30 to 15.30, aimed at measuring English proficiency, an essential requirement for students studying in an international program.
Based on the results of these two assessments, 43 applicants passed the first stage and were invited to continue to the second day of the selection process.
On Saturday, these selected applicants completed the Essay Test from 08.00 to 09.30, where they were asked to present their ideas and perspectives through written responses. The final stage was the Interview Test from 10.00 to 14.00, where the selection committee had the opportunity to learn more about the applicants’ motivations, interests, and readiness to pursue psychology in an international academic environment.

A Supportive Environment for Future IUP Students
While the interview stage is often the most challenging part of the selection process, the overall atmosphere remained supportive and welcoming. Many applicants admitted feeling nervous before entering the interview room, as the interview represents an important opportunity to present themselves to the selection panel.
However, the presence of the Liaison Officers (LOs) played a significant role in creating a positive experience for the applicants. Throughout the selection process, the LOs actively assisted participants, offering guidance, encouragement, and reassurance while they waited for their interviews. Their supportive approach helped many applicants feel more confident and calm.
This collaborative atmosphere reflects the values that define the IUP Psychology UGM community. Beyond selecting capable students, the program also aims to foster a supportive academic environment where students are encouraged to grow, collaborate, and engage in global perspectives throughout their educational journey.
