Event Recap – Taster Lecture from the University of Leeds

On Friday, April 11 2025, Faculty of Psychology conducted a taster lecture hosted by the School of Psychology University of Leeds. This session invited Dr. Madeleine Pownall as the speaker who accompanied students throughout the session. She is the Associate Professor in the School of Psychology University of Leeds with extensive areas of expertise, including the field of pedagogical research, social psychology, open science, feminist psychology, and psychological literacy. Within an approximately 60 minute session, students from batch 2023 and 2024 were guided through an advantageous learning experience discussing the social psychology of student life.

Event Recap – Guest Lecture on Psychology and Culture Class

On March 18, 2024, students of the Psychology and Culture course attended an online class session inviting Pina Marsico, PhD. She serves as the Associate Professor of Development and Educational Psychology at the University of Salerno in Italy, a Visiting Professor at the PhD Programme in Psychology at the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil, and an Associate Researcher at Aalborg University in Denmark. With extensive experience in research within the educational field, she is now the leading figure in the Cultural Psychology of Education. Through an approximately 100-minute learning session, precisely from 2.20 PM to 4 PM, the students were granted an opportunity to delve into the interplay among culture, the individual, and the environment.

Event Recap – A Field Study on Mindfulness with Charisma Consulting Yogyakarta

On November 29, 2024, students of the course Psychology of Emotion went on a field study at Savasana Coffee and Event Space in Bantul. The field study was a fruitful discussion on mindfulness-based therapy techniques presented by Annisa Poedji Pratiwi, M.Psi., Psikolog from Charisma Consulting. The session, which took place from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, was centered on how mindfulness may be incorporated into mental health and emotional control.

With a focus on how mindfulness treatment can promote emotional balance and enhance general mental health, Pratiwi’s experience led participants through important ideas and techniques. Setting the tone for a thoughtful and active learning environment, the session started with an enlightening evaluation of the participants’ emotional states. read more

Studying Abroad in the UK: Stories from IUP Batch 2022’s Student Exchange at the University of Birmingham

Studying abroad is a transformative experience, and for our friends who are currently doing a student exchange at the University of Birmingham, it’s an opportunity to embrace a new academic culture and lifestyle. Here, we share the perspectives of four students from Batch 2022 on their academic experience in the UK.

Asya highlights the value of the UK’s academic structure. “In the UK, classes are often seminar-based, where students actively engage in discussions, fostering critical thinking,” she explained. “In contrast, in Indonesia, lectures are more common, and there’s less emphasis on pre-class preparation.” Asya is studying modules like Crime and Antisocial Behaviour and Consumer Behaviour and appreciates the UK’s focus on independent learning, which she feels has helped her grow academically. read more

Alumni’s Story – Clara Michel, and her Journey from UGM Psychology to Edinburgh and LPDP Scholarship

Meet Clara Michel, an alumna from UGM’s Psychology Department, class of 2019, who is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in International Human Resource Management (IHRM) at the University of Edinburgh. Michel shares her inspiring journey and offers insights into why she chose her program and how her experiences have shaped her academic and professional growth.

Michel had some time working in human resources (HR), but she quickly recognized that in order to advance in her career, she required a deeper understanding. She acknowledges, “I felt like I jumped into a career without knowing how to do it right.” Although experience is a wonderful teacher, Michel desired to be more ready before making a long-term commitment. She decided to continue her education in HR, but this time she would study it from a business and management standpoint. read more
