On Friday, 9th December, the class of psychology of emotion conducted a mini-research exhibition in the form of posters related for their final research project. The exhibition was held at Hall D Faculty of Psychology UGM and it was hosted by Galang Lufityanto, Ph. D. There are various topics of the poster with the main theme of an individual’s emotion. The titles consist of ‘The Correlation between Loneliness and Jealousy: Comparing Dutch and Indonesian Culture’, ‘The Relationship between Nostalgia, Emotions, and Songs for Indonesians’, ‘Guilt as an Indicator of Pro-Environmental Behavior in Indonesian Students’, and ‘Frustration and Goal Proximity.’
One of the group ‘Endorphin’ discussed the relation between nostalgia and emotional state with the title of ‘The Relationship between Nostalgia, Emotions, and Songs for Indonesians’. The purpose of their research was to find out the differences in emotional state between Indonesians that are prone to nostalgia after listening to emotional and happy songs. The findings of the study reflect that people who are prone to nostalgia are found to have a decrease in positive emotions (i.e., happiness, joy, loving). The result might happen because of the activity of recalling a memory since it is considered to be part of a key factor in triggering negative emotions. For most of the students, this project is their first ever offline research poster presentation, it can give them an opportunity to enhance their ability to explain what they have learned and studied in a wide perspective.
